Base Camp Launch

On Sunday, September 19th we celebrated the release of Base Camp Las Vegas. The Historic Dam Hotel was the setting for the debut reception. Deborah Wall kept busy signing books throughout the entire event. I am pleased to report we sold all but one copy of Base Camp.

CERCA: Columnist creates hiking guide

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

Deborah Wall, outdoor columnist for View Neighborhood Newspapers and a regular contributor to the Cerca Travel Pages, has published a guidebook to the region’s best hikes. Its title, “Base Camp Las Vegas,” emphasizes that Las Vegas is perfectly positioned for easy access to some of the best outdoor opportunities in the Southwest.

Wall’s book will debut during a launch party from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Historic Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St. in Boulder City. Books will be available for purchase; Wall will autograph them if requested and answer questions about outdoor adventures, especially hiking. Light refreshments will be served.

Spring a prime time to visit Zion National Park

Zion National Park, Utah, is home to some of Earth’s most stunning landscapes. This is a land of towering, colorful sandstone monoliths, deep hidden canyons, free-flowing rivers and diverse plant communities. While each season has its own charms, the month of May is a particularly pleasant time to visit. Temperatures are often ideal, wildflowers are blooming, and because of recent rain and snowmelt, one can view seasonal waterfalls. There is also an abundance of visitor programs and workshops catering to all ages and interests.

My daughter Olivia, 23, accompanied me to the park recently to take in the sights and sounds of spring, and hike a bit. We started our visit at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, where we hopped on the free shuttle bus and headed up to the most popular and perhaps most stunning place in the park, Zion Canyon.
